I Can’t Keep Living Like This: The Moment Everything Starts to Change

HostPedro Misle
Duration14 min
TopicChange · Transformation · Patanjali · New Beginnings

There's a moment when something in you stops thinking and starts knowing: I can't keep living like this. It rarely arrives politely. But it might be the most honest thing you've heard from yourself in years.

Sometimes change announces itself after something breaks. Sometimes it's just a quiet knowing that the life you built no longer fits the person living it. Pedro looks at why these moments — never something to seek — can become the ground where a different life begins.

Pedro describes the moment the truth becomes impossible to push aside. From the outside everything can look fine; inside, something has reached its limit. He's careful not to romanticize rock bottom — we don't need to collapse in order to change. But when the old way stops working, it interrupts the automatic and forces us to look honestly at the patterns we keep repeating, and the price we've been paying for them.

The teaching he keeps returning to is Patanjali's opening line: and now, the discipline of yoga. He hears it as an urgent call — now that you've tried everything else, now that control is no longer enough, try a different way. It's the same recognition that brings many people to the Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training in Zürich: a sense that the strategies that once held them together have run out, and something else is being asked for.

He points to Robert Downey Jr. and Steve Jobs — moments that looked like endings and became beginnings, not because life fixed itself but because the collapse stripped away the illusion that the old way could continue. The invitation isn't to become someone else. It's to stop repeating what you already know doesn't work, one breath, one decision, one honest conversation at a time.

“Sometimes this isn't life falling apart. It's life asking you to come back.”

3 Key Takeaways From This Episode

  • 01 Don't wait for rock bottom — but don't waste it. Crisis isn't something to chase. Yet when it arrives, it can break open the denial and habits that kept you stuck for years.
  • 02 “And now” is an invitation. Patanjali's first sutra marks the moment the old strategies stop working and a new way becomes possible — when the discomfort of staying finally outweighs the fear of moving.
  • 03 Change happens one step at a time. Not a dramatic reinvention. One breath, one boundary, one honest choice to come back to yourself. That's enough.

Kundalini Yoga combines breathwork, movement, meditation, and mantra into a single practice. Unlike more physically focused styles, it works directly with the nervous system and aims to create self-knowledge from the inside out. At Imagine, we teach it free of dogma, as a practical method for real life, not a belief system.

Pedro Misle explores the moment life stops fitting the person living it — the quiet, undeniable sense that something has to change. Drawing on Patanjali's first sutra, “and now, the discipline of yoga,” he reframes crisis not as failure but as an invitation to begin again, one honest step at a time. It will resonate with anyone standing at a threshold, whether after something broke or simply because the old way no longer works. Many people arrive at the 200h Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training at Imagine Yoga Academy in Geneva, Zürich, and Lugano at precisely this kind of turning point.

The Moment You Know

There comes a moment in life when something inside you knows. Not thinks. Knows. A moment when the truth becomes impossible to keep pushing aside. And the truth sounds something like this: I can't keep living like this.

Maybe everything still looks fine from the outside. You're still showing up, answering messages, taking care of everyone, doing what needs to be done. But inside, something has reached its limit. Maybe it's exhaustion, or grief. Maybe it's the strange feeling of living a life that no longer feels like yours.

Not Something to Seek

I want to begin by saying something important. This is not something we need to seek. I don't believe in glorifying rock bottom. We don't need to wait until life becomes unbearable. We don't need to collapse in order to change.

And yet, if you find yourself there — if life has brought you to that edge — there is something profoundly powerful in that moment. Because when we reach that point, something often breaks open. The denial. The stories. The habits. The way we've been convincing ourselves that this is normal, that we're fine, that if we just push a little harder things will change. And then one day we realize they won't. Not like this.

A Turning Point

Psychologically, this can become a turning point. Because when the old way stops working, it forces awareness. It interrupts the automatic. It makes us look — really look — at the life we're living. At the patterns we keep repeating. And at the price we're paying.

Sometimes it's the first truly honest moment we've had with ourselves in a long time. And strangely, there can be freedom in that. Because once you see clearly, you can't unsee. Once you know the road you're on isn't taking you where you want to go, something inside begins to ask for something different.

And Now — Patanjali's First Sutra

This brings me to one of my favorite teachings from Patanjali. The very first sutra begins: and now, the discipline of yoga. To me it feels like a call. An urgent call. Almost as if Patanjali is saying: and now. Now that you've tried everything else. Now that the mind has taken you as far as it can. Now that control is no longer enough. Now that the strategies that once sustained you are no longer working. Now.

Now is the moment. Try something different. Try a new way. Try a path that doesn't ask you to perform more, but to return to yourself. Because most of us don't change the first time life whispers. We change when life becomes impossible to ignore — when the discomfort of staying becomes greater than the fear of moving.

Two Stories

I think of Robert Downey Jr. There was a time when everything had fallen apart. Addiction. Arrests. Prison. A career that seemed completely destroyed. From the outside it looked like the end. And yet it became the beginning — not because life magically fixed itself, but because that moment stripped everything back: the ego, the defenses, the illusion that he could continue the same way. And from there, discipline entered. Practice entered. A different life began.

I think of Steve Jobs too. Being removed from Apple wasn't just losing a position. It was losing an identity, a public humiliation. Later he said it became one of the best things that happened to him, because it returned him to the lightness of being a beginner again. Sometimes what feels like loss is actually space. Space for something truer to emerge.

Where You Are Now

Maybe this is where you are right now. Maybe not in a dramatic collapse. Maybe simply in a quiet inner knowing — that something in your life no longer fits. That the version of you who created this life is not the version of you who needs to live it now.

And if that's where you are, please hear this: don't fear change. Embrace it. Because the truth is, you already know the old roads. You've walked them before, maybe many times. You know where they end. Perhaps this moment isn't asking you to become someone else. Perhaps it's simply asking you to stop repeating what you already know doesn't work.

One Step at a Time

There's something almost magical about the moment we stop forcing what no longer fits. When we stop gripping the old identity. When we allow life to become honest again. And if change is asking to be born in your life right now — listen. Don't run from it. Don't postpone it.

Because sometimes this isn't life falling apart. Sometimes this is life asking you to come back. Back to yourself. Back to what's real. Back to what matters. And remember, it's one step at a time. That's the only speed that gets you there. One breath. One decision. One honest conversation. One boundary. One practice. One moment of choosing yourself again. That is enough. More than enough. Maybe this is your and now moment. And maybe that's where everything begins. Sat Nam.
