Signs: When Life Speaks to You
Nearly 40% of the students in an Imagine teacher training in Zürich said they felt called by something that kept reappearing. This episode is about what that actually means.
Listen now
Have you ever felt like the universe was sending you a message? An ad that appeared again and again, a phrase overheard at the perfect moment, a book that seemed to fall into your hands. Are these coincidences — or something else?
In Zürich, at the welcome class for one of Imagine's Teacher Trainings, Pedro sat in a circle as students shared why they were there. Nearly 40% said something similar: an Instagram post or phrase kept reappearing until they finally clicked. His cynical side almost spoke up: 'It's not a sign, it's cookies.' But he held back — because it was both.
A sign is not an external message. It's an internal one. It's your own inner compass whispering: it's time. The post, the phrase, the book — they are not the source of the sign. They are the mirror.
3 Key Takeaways From This Episode
- 01 Signs are mirrors, not messages from outside. What we call a sign is often the adaptive unconscious surfacing patterns we've already sensed but hadn't admitted. The source is within — the external world is simply reflecting it back.
- 02 Gut feelings have a physical basis. The vagus nerve carries real signals from the gut to the brain. Those feelings you're tempted to dismiss are influencing your decisions whether you acknowledge them or not.
- 03 Three questions to know if it's real. Did it stir something in you? Does it keep repeating? Does it point inward, toward your own truth? If yes to all three, it's worth paying attention.

The Story
About five years ago, I had what Oprah would call an "aha moment." We were in Zürich, at the welcome class for our Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training. It was one of the biggest groups we had ever welcomed. We all sat in a circle, introducing ourselves, sharing why we were there.
One student said: "Honestly, I was feeling stuck. Then one day, an Instagram post from Imagine Yoga Academy popped up in my feed. It said 'Unleash your inner truth!' I couldn't stop thinking about it. Two days later it appeared again. Then again. And I thought… This must be a sign. So I clicked, I loved it, and here I am."
As the round continued, nearly 40% of the people shared something similar. "It popped up again and again. It felt like a calling." And I sat there, listening. My cynical side almost spoke up: "Friends, it's not a sign. It's publicity. It's cookies." But I didn't say it. And thank goodness. Because yes, it was publicity. But it was also a sign.
What Signs Really Are
A sign is not really an external message. It is an internal one. It's your own inner compass whispering: "It's time. Something must change. You are ready." The Instagram post, the random phrase from a stranger, the book that falls into your hands… they are not the source of the sign. They are the mirror.
Psychologists talk about the adaptive unconscious — the part of your mind that is constantly processing information beneath awareness. What we call a "sign" is often your brain surfacing patterns you already sensed, but had not admitted yet.
Neuroscience also shows us the gut–brain connection. The vagus nerve carries signals from your gut to your brain. Those "gut feelings" you sometimes dismiss are real, physical signals influencing your decisions. And then there's synchronicity — Carl Jung described it as meaningful coincidences. Modern psychology says that during times of transition, our attention sharpens. We start noticing what feels significant.
How to Know If It's a Sign
Ask yourself three questions: Did it stir something in me? Does it keep repeating? Does it point me inward, toward my own truth? If yes, it's worth paying attention.
For over twenty years I have repeated one phrase: "The truth will set you free." We all carry that truth. Sometimes we lack courage, clarity, or support. But deep down… we know.
So if something feels like a sign — whether it is a phrase on Instagram, a conversation, or even an ad for a yoga training — it is a sign. Because if it touched you, it is proof that you are ready. Ready for change. Ready for the next stage of your life.
