Meaning

What a Kriya Means

A Kriya is a series of exercises or asanas, arranged in a particular order and with a specific goal.

In the Kundalini Yoga tradition, teachers generally don't create the series of asanas on their own discretion. The kriyas taught are typically adaptations of older techniques, structured and shared in a way that's accessible and repeatable.

How It’s Used

The teacher's role in a kriya is defined as the Travel Guide: having clarity on the aim of the kriya, the energy path it proposes, the keys of each asana (how to build it, hold it and come out of it), and the breathing techniques or pranayama it contains.

For each asana, the teacher gives clear, concise instructions for entering, sustaining and exiting the posture, watches how those instructions are received, and corrects with the voice rather than touch. After the asana, a brief pause lets the experience settle before moving on.
