Meaning

What Manipura Means

Manipura is the third chakra, located at the navel point and solar plexus. It is ruled by the element of fire and is the subtlest of the three chakras that make up the Lower Triangle: Muladhara, Swadhisthana and Manipura.

It is considered the body's reserve pool of energy, the point where Kundalini energy is said to be initiated before it moves down two reserve channels to awaken at the base of the spine and begin its ascent through Sushumna. Manipura governs action and balance and is associated with the archetype of the spiritual warrior: someone who knows their mission and has the energy to complete it.

How It’s Used

When Manipura is balanced, a person has a strong sense of personal power, self-esteem and judgment, along with the inner stability that supports good health and clear decisions. The chakra's core value is power, its principle is combustion, and its color is yellow.

Yoga exercises associated with Manipura include Stretch Pose, Navasana, Plank Pose, Sat Kriya, Breath of Fire, and other core-strengthening postures and twists. Its Bij Mantra is Ram.
