Kundalini Yoga Glossary
Pranic Body
The eighth of the Ten Bodies: the body of breath, energy and fearlessness.
Meaning
What Pranic Body Means
The Pranic Body is the eighth of the Ten Bodies in Kundalini Yoga, associated with Guru Har Krishan and the themes of purity, energy and fearlessness. Through the breath, it continuously brings life force and energy into the system, allowing a person to feel fearless, fully alive and connected to the whole of creation.
When the Pranic Body is strong and the breath is deep and relaxed, a person is self-motivated and has the energy to pursue their goals. All disease is said to begin with an imbalance in this body: when it is weak, the signs are low-level anxiety, chronic fatigue, and a tendency to look for energy in food or stimulants rather than in the breath itself.
In Practice
How It’s Used
The key to balancing the Pranic Body is pranayama: any of the breathing exercises that consciously extend and regulate the breath restore and strengthen it.
Because the Pranic Body works directly through breath, it is one of the most immediately trainable of the Ten Bodies. Consistent pranayama practice, rather than a single technique, is what the manual points to for keeping it in balance.
