Meaning

What Japji Means

Japji, or Japji Sahib, is a recitation traditionally used to open the Kundalini Yoga morning Sadhana, though it isn't mandatory to do so.

It comes before the mantras used to tune in (the Adi Mantra and Mangala Charan Mantra), the warm up, the kriya chosen for the day, relaxation, and the Sadhana for the Aquarian Age mantras that follow.

How It’s Used

A traditional Kundalini Yoga Sadhana runs about 2 to 2.5 hours, depending on whether Japji is included. Leaving it out is one of the ways the practice can be shortened when there isn't time for the whole sequence.

When it is included, it sets the tone before the rest of the structure: tuning in, warm up, kriya, relaxation, and the closing mantras.
