Meaning

What Ong Means

Ong invokes spirit: the universal spirit said to pervade all of creation. Chanting it is described as elevating the chanter to the experience of their own spirit, awake to truths that were dormant inside them, opening them to a light that alters their whole internal landscape.

Ong is the opening sound of the Adi Mantra, Ong Namo Guru Dev Namo, and also appears within Ek Ong Kar, the phrase that names the universal consciousness and all its manifestation as one.

In Practice

How It’s Used

Ong is chanted at the start of the Adi Mantra, before Namo, Guru, Dev and Namo, and again within Ek Ong Kar Sat Nam Siri Wahe Guru, the mantra chanted every morning at the start of Aquarian Sadhana.

Because it opens both of these mantras, Ong is one of the first sounds a student learns in Kundalini Yoga, tuning in before practice begins.
