Meaning

What Positive Mind Means

The Positive Mind is one of the three functional minds in Kundalini Yoga philosophy, alongside the Negative and Neutral Minds. It is expansive and practical, seeking pleasure, satisfaction and the chance to experience everything. It is constructive, enjoys taking risks, and examines each thought and feeling for the resources needed to act on it, asking how is this useful to me and how far can I go with this idea.

As the Third Body in the system of the Ten Bodies, the Positive Mind is associated with Guru Amar Das and carries the themes of equality and positivity. It sees the positive essence of situations and people, gives a strong will, and makes communication direct; when it is weak, the input of the Negative Mind can feel overwhelming, depressing or paralyzing.

In Practice

How It’s Used

The Positive Mind is balanced through Asana and Pranayama, the physical postures and breathing practices among Patanjali's Eight Limbs, rather than through the ethical restraints or meditative practices that balance the other two minds.

When the Positive Mind is underdeveloped, the manual points to strengthening the Navel Point, increasing self-esteem, and using positive affirmations as the way back to balance.
